Carl Byström

Brief info about me
Name: Carl Byström
Age: 17
Country: Sweden
Town: Uppsala (close to Stockholm, the capital of Sweden)

To me, living in Sweden is the most natural thing in the world, which makes it difficult to describe.  I spend time with my family, go to school, hang out with friends, do homework, play with my dog and play the piano. I also try to make time for events and work outside school, like this one. In my eyes, the main characteristic of living in Sweden would be the abundance of opportunities and possibilities to do what you want, or to find out what it is that you want.

Concerning COP15

There are many reasons why I have chosen to come to Copenhagen. First and foremost, I consider it of the greatest importance that everybody take interest in the national and international issues and take part in the democratic process. Climate change is one of those issues and children are part of populations all over the world. Moreover, I hope to be a great representative for our group back in Sweden, so that we all get the most out of this. On a personal plane, this is important for my own development and learning in journalism, environment issues and politics. And of course, I have the best of expectations that this will be very challenging and a lot of fun.
The importance of climate change, as an issue, is a no-brainer. No matter where you live, climate change affects all of us and we must all make an effort to stop it. This especially concerns younger people as it is our world, the world of tomorrow, that will face the toughest outcomes of global warming. In the developed world we see direct outcomes of climate change already today, which makes the call for action only more urgent.
This summer, my friend and I set out to try entrepreneurship. Our vision was low carbon-emission orange juice. The idea we got was to strap a series of bicycle dynamos to a bike, connect them in series, and then power a citrus squeezer with the current produced. After having modified the idea together with a physicist, we arrived at the following conclusion about how the circuit should look: One person pedaling a bike, electricity generator (from an old car) connected to the wheel of the bike inducing electricity into a battery, powering our citrus squeezer, and a second person making the orange juice. Then we built the whole ‘thing’ and sold freshly squeezed orange juice in the centre of town.

Finally, in Copenhagen, there is not one specific thing to which I am looking forward the most, for what I am most excited about is to see the conference as a whole, with all its constituent entities included.

Büsra Kaya

My name is Büsra Kaya and I’m 17 years old. I’m from Turkey but lives in Sweden with my family. Besides that I have an identical twin, Esra.

I live in Stockholm and I’m studying on the collage called Globala. It is a school that works for a better world and have focus on sustainable development.

This attending of youth journalists in Copenhagen is very important; I really think that the time has come to do something about the climate change and the unfairness in the world. I want to be a part of the changes in the world. Plan’s youth delegation in Copenhagen will be good, and I think we will do a great work.

This will be a very big highlight in my life. It will also be a wonderful experience for a life time! And being a represent for Plan Sweden’s youth delegation in Copenhagen is a great honor for me.

Why do I think climate change is such an important issue for young people growing up in the developed and developing world?

We know that the children that don’t know their rights are the people that get hurt the most. They don’t know their rights and haven’t the knowledge about what do to to stop the consequences of climate change. Children are intelligent and if they get to now and spread what they know they can make a change in the world. We have seen that teenager who knows about climate change act and do something about it.

I’m very proud of that I have converted my big family to a more climate smart family. Not only has my family changed but also people around me. Another thing is my cchoice of ollage . I don’t think that I would have learned so much about climate changes and human rights in another collage.
I look forward for to the conclusions of the conference. Of course if they agree about a new plan. I hope that they will agree and after the meeting really start working for climate change and childrens rights. I also look forward to Mr Barack Obama and Mr Hu Jintao speaches and agreements.
